Singapore 2009

Hey All,

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to post.  That is partly to due to being so busy, and partly cause of lack of internet connection.  I wanted to update you all that I've moved into my new flat with my new flatmates, Franck and Yaso.  We all love the place :).  I've uploaded a few photos so you can try to get an idea what it's like here.  The first photo shows Franck and Yaso cooking for the first time in our flat.  This occurred during the weekend of Chinese New
Year, which it's actually customary to cook and have dinner with family and friends :).  Yaso cooked Mei Goreng and Franck made one of his family dilicious cakes.

You'll also see pictures from when I had a small get together with my wonderful friends here in Singapore.
In this photo is Khai (3rd year undergrad ChemE!) and Romy(German Exchange student working an internship at Dimler).

This is Dasha, also a 1-year PhD student, who's teaching me guitar!  Oh yeah, I'll really bring in the boys now! ;)

Here is a picture of Sama on the far left (PhD student), Daniella (Swedish exchange student), and Franck...my roommate.  I think he made out pretty well in the photo with all these beautiful girls ;).

So these are the people I hand out most frequently in Singapore.  I am throughly enjoying singapore mostly cause of all these lovely people.
As far as recent events, we just had Chinese New Year (CNY) here, as I said before.  To elaborate a little more about on CNY (which by the way this abbreviation always confuses me cause I think of NYC and then I just feel dyslexic) it started on Sunday January 25 and it apparently lasts for about 10 or so days.  We had off Monday and Tues.  So me being the studious student I am I met up with friends for BBQ's, quality pool time, and dancing....the photos below say it all.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Khai's not only a ChemE, but a DJ too!!! Yeah.....why did I come to Singapore again...studying??

Home for the New Year 2009

My Dear Friends,

I came home on the
Dec 19th and will return to Singapore on 9th of Jan.  Which actually means I will not return til the 11th at midnight in Singapore, gotta love the time difference!

In all actuality, it's been really great being home.
I have been spending loads of time with my family.  I went to Phili for a day with my dad, where he took to all the insufferable historical sights.  To which my dad replied: "Man, time goes fast" at which I replied, "Yes, dad, but that's only when you're having fun."  But he throughly enjoyed it as you can see from the pictures, which made me oh so happy!  The picture of my dad is in the first congress hall where in the room where George Washington was inaugurated for the second time.

The other two images are of the Liberty Bell, which I haven't seen since I was like 6!  And the other is of me be the statue of John Barry who is apparently the "Father of the US Navy." I've also been spending time with my mom and my brother just watching movies and going shopping :).

I went to Boston also for a few days and stayed at Katy and Kevin's house.  That was oh so much fun. We listened to John Lennon, Vampire Weekend, Sondre Lerche, Harry Nilsson, and Neil Young all while the fire was lit in the fireplace and eating loads of mexican food and chocolate!

I arrived in Boston on the 30th and stayed til the morning of the 2nd.  We got 6 inches of snow on the 31st and it was so frigid.  Of course, I did not bring boots and all I had were my beloved Jack Purcell's.  But Kevin was kind enough to let me borrow his runners, which posed as snow boots for me.  ;)  Natalie, my last roommate in Boston, came over and we brought in the new fire with BBQ chicken pizza (made by Katy and Kevin), white wine and champagne, the last of the fire wood, and Scrabble (first-timer for me).

The images show there Boston was supposed to have a parade and hey had the floats ready, but they were taking shelter under the roofs of all the businesses to shield them from the snow.

I also saw my good friend Narine and her boyfriend, Mike.  Along with my friend and fellow lab mate Brian.  We mostly chatted and worked on a Rubik's Cub
e...Nerdy, I know.

Finally, I concluded my fabulous weekend in Jersey by celebrating Joe's birthday with him.  We went to dinner at a Hibachi, which I've never been to one before.  It was so good and Joe got loads of Saki squirted into his mouth from a ketchup bottle, curtsey of the chef . ;)  Afterwards we went back to his place for some teach and cheesecake from the none other than the Cheesecake Factory!  Good night!  And he was very happy with his spice rack! :)
P.S.  I will try to get a picture up of my mom, but she has photophobia.... :)
